The group card that stays with the person
Most of the kind things people say about us are said once, out loud, and lost. A birthday card gets signed, read and recycled. A leaving speech is remembered in fragments. Because of You started with a simple question: what if those words were collected, and kept, in one place that belonged to the person they were about?
What we make
Because of You is a group card everyone can sign online. One person starts a card, shares a link, and friends, family or a whole team add their own messages, photos and video from wherever they are. When the day comes, the recipient opens a reveal: an envelope, a song, and every message arriving one at a time.
The card does not disappear afterwards. It lives in the recipient's fan club, a page built around them, where next year's card lands beside this one. Over time the fan club becomes a record of what the people in someone's life have said about them, which is the part we care about most.
Why a fan club
We called it a fan club because that is what it is: the people who are for you, in one place. A parent has one. A teacher has one. A colleague who is leaving has one, and it travels with them to the next job. The name is a little playful on purpose. Being someone's fan is a good thing to admit to.
The group card is the way a fan club gets filled. Occasions are the moments people are already looking for the words, so we built the card around them, and we built the fan club so the words outlast the occasion.
What we believe
The free version should be the whole thing. Creating, signing and sending a card costs nothing, with no limit on how many people sign, because a card from everyone only works if everyone can be in it.
The reveal should be worth watching. A group card is a small performance: the envelope, the music, the pacing of the messages. We spend a lot of our time on those few minutes.
The person being celebrated owns what is said about them. The card is theirs after it is opened, and the fan club keeps collecting for as long as people want to add to it.
Who makes it
Because of You is built by Scott Brown, an independent founder, with a small group of collaborators. It is not part of a larger company. The product is funded by the optional extras people choose to buy: printed cards mailed to the recipient, premium cards and the family plan.
We answer our own support email, read every message, and build what people ask for when enough of them ask. If something on the site is wrong or could be better, we want to know.
